Our Moppa wines are an expression of the region from which we call home. A blend of vineyards, or as we like to call them gardens, from the heart of Moppa. Fragrant wines with personality, crafted with a gentle touch and a respect for these classic varietals from this renowned region.

Tasting Note

Grape Variety: Shiraz
Region: Moppa, Barossa Valley
Colour: Deep magenta purple.
Nose: Aromatic blue and black fruits; boysenberry, blood plum, blackberry, supported by subtle malt cream and notes of Dutch cocoa.
Palate: Lively fruit driven frame with loads of upfront berry flavours filling the mouth and continuing through the mid and finish.  Harmonious, fine long talcy line of tannin extends the palate; morish and salivating and all the time supported by bright fruit flavours. The oak influence is balanced contributing savoury complexity and texture, allowing regional characters to shine.

Vintage Conditions 

Winter 2021 was recorded as the wettest in 25 years for Northern Barossa, setting up the vines well for the growing season. Other than one welcomed rain event on the 1 of March, the summer was dry. The cool conditions allowed for the steady ripening of fruit to its optimum flavour, colour and tannin development. Wines of the 2022 vintage are characterised as having the lovely natural balance, brightness of fruit, perfume and long fine structural palates.

This wine is sourced from a combination of two vineyards in the Moppa district in the Barossa Valley. A small percentage of whole bunches, but the majority is fermented as whole berries, before fourteen months maturing in seasoned French oak. Opaque maroon with notes of blueberries to the fore here, supported by chocolate, coffee beans, mocha, bergamot and bay leaves. A hint of oak but it is well integrated. Finely balanced, there is good intensity here, with firm tannins and bright acidity. The finish has impressive persistence. Gorgeously rich and powerful with grace and style, the wine shows blackberry, cured meat, dark cocoa and cedary oak characters on the nose.
